World Alzheimers Month

It has been estimated that there are currently over 46 million people  worldwide living with Dementia. That number is set to rise to over 131 million by 2050 (alz.co.uk).  Alzheimer's Disease International's (ADI) recent research shows that every three seconds someone in the world develops Dementia.

The chief executive of the ADI, Marc Workman believes that Dementia is the ‘most significant’ health crisis of the 21st century. Hence, World Alzheimer's Month was established as a worldwide annual campaign which aims to raise awareness and challenge the stigma surrounding Alzheimer's disease - the most common form of Dementia.

We created StoriiCare as a platform to improve lives through memories. People living with Dementia can struggle to recognise their personal identity due to memory loss, in turn, they often lose a sense of who they are. StoriiCare is used by the care sector as a life story and reminiscence tool, enabling families and carers to collaborate, preserving memories that really matter. It's an excellent way to effectively implement person-centered care into a care home environment,  improving documentation of care and ultimately, quality of life for service users.

With StoriiCare you can store most forms of media including text, audio, images & videos to build up a person's life story.

Old photographs & video footage help to revive old memories for people with Dementia. Browsing through an archive of memories can be an excellent tool for facilitating communication, as it can also resurface positive emotions from a person's past. This encourages the process of talking, sharing and communicating.  You can also use StoriiCare to create music playlists. Music can also be a powerful trigger to help unlock memories for people even in the later stages of Dementia. This is because most people associate music with important life moments. Therefore, they are more likely to have strong emotional connections with certain songs. Music reminiscence therapy can be beneficial for people with Dementia, as when used correctly music can shift moods, reduce stress, coordinate motor movement and stimulate positive interaction.

StoriiCare is in support of #WAM2016 and aims improve the quality of life to those with Dementia.
